In search of matches between Russia and Mexico

The visit to the Department of Population Studies of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF) of  Drs. Natalia S. Gavrilova and Leonid A. Gavrilov from the Center on Aging of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago provided the opportunity to organize a meeting with researchers from the National Institute of Geriatrics.  The goal is an exchange of information and ideas with a double purpose.  The first is to know what is being done in each of these institutions in the field on aging.  The second is to explore possibilities of collaboration.

The meeting was held in the Aula Magna starting at 09:30 am with a brief self-introduction of participants: Roberto Enríquez Santamaría, Leonid A. Gavrilov, Natalia S. Gavrilova, César González, Raúl González Ramírez, Luis Miguel Gutiérrez Robledo, Roberto Ham Chande, Raul Campos Medina, Silvia Mejía Arango, Ana Maria Navarro Ornelas, Adriana Ortiz Peredo.

The formal part of the work was composed with presentations supported by PPT in the order stated below.  A time schedule was not assigned but it was recommended and will be controlled not to exceed 30 minutes. The intention is to have comments, questions and exchange of views.

This scheme tries to give an overview of aging in Mexico, refers to some of the work being carried out and states the need to look to the future.  After this frame of reference about Mexico we had the presentations by Leonid A. Gavrilov  and Natalia S. Gavrilova, who focused on Russia and Eastern Europe.  The underlying thought for the whole group of participants is to consider building a comparison between Russia and Mexico and the possibility of collaboration.
